In Memoriam
We know how much you miss your loved ones who have passed away. You can show them how much you care by giving a gift to the church in their name. This is a wonderful way to keep their memory alive and to help the church grow.
When you give a gift in memory of someone, please let us know their name. You can write it down with your donation or come and talk to us. We would love to hear from you.
We will write their name in the Memorial Book, which is a special book that we have in the church. We will also remember them and you in our prayers during a Holy Mass that we have for our donors and their loved ones every month.
If you want to leave something to the church in your will, such as money, stocks, or property, please use our full name - The Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church.
You are always welcome to come to the Church and see the Memorial Book. It is our way of saying thank you to all the people who have given gifts to the Church or have been remembered by others. You can see their names and feel their love.
The Holy Mass that we have for our donors and their loved ones is on the first Friday of every month at 1 p.m. You are welcome to join us if you like.
Your gift to the church will make a big difference. We are so thankful for your kindness and generosity. God bless you and your family.
Life Insurance
Life insurance policies offer donors the option to gift the church in substantial ways. If you have enough money and other insurance coverage, you can choose to name the Church as a beneficiary on your life insurance policy.
We believe that this kind of gift is only appropriate for those who have enough money to be generous and have already taken care of their family and loved ones. If you are considering this type of gift to the Church, we would be honored to speak with you.
Life insurance premiums are generally not tax-deductible in Canada. However, if a registered charity is the owner and beneficiary of the policy, the premium paid by the taxpayer may be considered a charitable donation. The beneficiary receives the death benefit of a Canadian life insurance policy tax-free.
If you are interested in donating your life insurance policy to a charity, there are three ways you can do so:
1. Take out a new policy in the name of the charitable organization. You’ll receive a
charitable tax receipt for the cash value of the policy and for any premiums you pay.
2. Name the charity as the beneficiary of an existing policy. This is a simple way to provide
a charity with the death benefit proceeds from a policy.
3. Donate an existing policy to charity and obtain a receipt for the annual premium
payments to reduce ongoing tax liabilities.
Fixed Income Investments
Maybe you’re wondering how you can support the Church with your money in a different way.
Do you have money that works for you? Money that earns interest, dividends, or capital gains? Money that pays you regularly or grows over time? You can use that money to help our church and its mission.
There are two ways to do this, and here are some examples:
You can share some of the income that your money generates with the church every month or year. For example, if you have $10,000 in the bank and it earns $500 interest every year, you can donate that $500 interest to the church. This is a great way to help the church cover its expenses and serve others, especially if you have enough money for your own needs.
You can also leave your money to the church in your will, or even give it sooner. For example, if you have $50,000 that will grow to $60,000 in 10 years, you can decide that the church will receive that money when you pass away or when the 10 years are up.
This is a generous way to help the church face its financial challenges, especially in these difficult times.
If you are interested in this kind of giving, please contact us. We would love to hear from you and assist you with it.
Physical Property
Do you want to give something to the Church that is not money? Maybe you have a piece of land, a house, or a building that you don’t need. Or maybe you have some nice things, like gold, jewelry, cars, or paintings. These things can help the church do good work and help people in need. You can also make a difference that lasts for a long time.
When you give something to the church, we will say thank you in a special way. We will write your name, or the name of someone you love, in our Memorial Book. This book has the names of all the people who have given something to the Church.
But before you give something to the Church, please make sure that you are OK with it. We don’t want you to have any trouble with your family or the law. You may need to do some things first, like finding out how much your asset is worth, paying off any debts, or changing the papers that say who owns it. You may also want to talk to a lawyer or an accountant who can help you.
If you have any questions or worries about giving something to the church, please let us know. We are here to help you and make it easy for you.
Giving something to the church can also help you save money on taxes.
In Canada, some assets that you give to the Church are not taxed when they go up in value. For example, if you bought some land for $10,000 and now it is worth $20,000, you don’t have to pay tax on the $10,000 difference. This is true for some kinds of land and some kinds of stocks.
You can also get tax credits for giving something to the Church. Tax credits are like coupons that make your tax bill smaller. You can get tax credits for up to 75% of what you earn in a year.
If you want to learn more about taxes and giving to the church, please check out this website: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/charities-giving/giving-charity-information-donors/claiming-charitable-tax-credits.html or talk to someone who knows about taxes.
