Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation into the Christian faith. A sacrament is an outward sign of inward grace instituted by Christ.
The water used in baptism washes away our sins and brings us into the Trinitarian New Life of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The holy oils give us strength and grace to live according to the teachings of Christ.
The lit candle serves as a reminder that we are called to be the light of Christ shining in our world.
Infants are baptized, relying on the faith of their parents and godparents, whereas adults are baptized after learning about the teachings of the Catholic faith according to the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults and come to receive the free gift of faith from Christ.
When adults are baptized, they also receive the sacraments of Eucharist (Holy Communion) and Confirmation at the same Mass, to complete their initiation into the Catholic faith.
If you or your child wish to be baptized at Holy Redeemer, we would be delighted to welcome you into our community. All inquiries and requests for a child's baptism must come from a child’s parent or legal guardian.
To proceed with requesting a baptism, please complete and submit the online Baptism Request Form. Upon receipt of the form, we will contact you to discuss the details relating to preparing and celebrating Baptism.
