Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
Overview

Assists in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass.
Responsibilities

Distributes Holy Communion (either the Host or the Precious Blood) on the hand or on the tongue to those who come forth from the Assembled Faithful.

Provides a brief blessing for those who come forth, but are unable to receive Holy Communion.

If the Host falls on the floor, the EMHC asks the communicant if he/she still wants to receive it or not. If they choose not to receive the fallen host, the EMHC collects the host and holds on to it until after communion is over and then gives it to the presiding priest for later dissolution in water.

Looks out to the Assembly after the communion line has ended for those who would like to receive communion, but were unable to walk in the processional line, and brings communion to their seat.

Whomever is the first to finish, goes to the music ministers to provide communion to them.

Is responsible for finding a replacement in the event of short notice cancellation and advising the Ministry Coordinator.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications

A registered, active member of the parish.

Is at least 16 years old and has received the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Is able to stand for an extended period of time.
